SOURCE AND CONVERSION
Fang Fang Kang (2024), models.zip, v1 — CC BY 4.0. CAD files accompanying Shi, Kang and Liu (2024), PeerJ 12:e17456.
The study starts from CBCT data of a 7-year-old child; root shapes are reconstructed for research. This CAD is not presented as the child’s unmodified anatomy, an adult standard or a specific stage of root development.
Only the outer tooth surface, pulp cavity and schematic periodontal layer were extracted. Original assembly coordinates were preserved, with no surface smoothing, invented canals or fitting to the main mouth model. Display axes were rotated and the surfaces centered together.
The paper describes the support layer as 0.15 mm in Methods and 0.2 mm in Discussion. Because of this inconsistency, no thickness-accuracy claim is made. CAD tessellation tolerance is 0.025 mm; this is not a measure of clinical accuracy.
Colored section fills show cuts through existing surfaces; they are not separate enamel/dentin or new tissue data. This specimen is not used to fill the interiors of the 28 teeth in the main mouth model.
Research preview. Independent academic review and the project’s release decision are still pending.
EXPLORATION GUIDE
Layer colors are illustrative. Models have different scopes; internal tissues absent from the source are not shown.
